Totally forgot the part of this ‪#‎MeijiJinguShrine‬ but if I remember correctly, this is an important part of the shrine that’s why there’s an ‪#‎omamori‬ (talismans) around it | ‪#‎MeijiShrine‬ ‪#‎MejiShrine‬ ‪#‎ShintoShrine‬ ‪#‎YourShot‬ ‪#‎NatGeo‬ ‪#‎NatGeoTravel‬ ‪#‎HETHLERized‬ ‪#‎WhenInJapan‬ ‪#‎JapanHangover‬ ‪#‎Japan‬ ‪#‎Travel‬ ‪#‎MeTime‬ ‪#‎ILoveJapan‬ ‪#‎IgersPH‬ ‪#‎IgersManila‬ ‪#‎IgersPasig‬ ‪#‎Instagood‬ ‪#‎TravelGram‬ ‪#‎TravelDiaries‬

This is the prayer wall of the ‪#‎MeijiJinguShrine‬. Two things: first, there are papers with envelopes available that you could use for free for your wishes and prayers, you can then drop them at the box and put some coins with it 😊 Second, there are ‪#‎votive‬ (wood tablet) that you can buy at the shop for ¥500. Write on it and hang it up here are the prayer wall 🙏 | ‪#‎MeijiShrine‬ ‪#‎MejiShrine‬ ‪#‎ShintoShrine‬ ‪#‎YourShot‬ ‪#‎NatGeo‬ ‪#‎NatGeoTravel‬ ‪#‎HETHLERized‬ ‪#‎WhenInJapan‬ ‪#‎JapanHangover‬ ‪#‎Japan‬ ‪#‎Travel‬ ‪#‎MeTime‬ ‪#‎ILoveJapan‬ ‪#‎IgersPH‬ ‪#‎IgersManila‬ ‪#‎IgersPasig‬ ‪#‎Instagood‬ ‪#‎TravelGram‬ ‪#‎TravelDiaries‬

Another important part of the ‪#‎MeijiJinguShrine‬, (I’m bad at kanjis and I can hardly recall the name/offering); but there’s a little plant and talisman to guard it 🙏 | ‪#‎MeijiShrine‬ ‪#‎MejiShrine‬ ‪#‎ShintoShrine‬ ‪#‎YourShot‬ ‪#‎NatGeo‬ ‪#‎NatGeoTravel‬ ‪#‎HETHLERized‬ ‪#‎WhenInJapan‬ ‪#‎JapanHangover‬ ‪#‎Japan‬ ‪#‎Travel‬ ‪#‎MeTime‬ ‪#‎ILoveJapan‬ ‪#‎IgersPH‬ ‪#‎IgersManila‬ ‪#‎IgersPasig‬ ‪#‎Instagood‬ ‪#‎TravelGram‬ ‪#‎TravelDiaries‬

Earlier, I noted that just seeing these trees it made me feel so calm, peace and such serenity. So while browsing my shots, apparently there’s a kanji note behind the tree which reads: These camphor trees, planted in 1920 at the time of the enshrinement of ‪#‎MeijiJinguShrine‬, have grown under the protection of the deities to become huge and vivid, while considered as sacred. Well known as “‪#‎Meoto‬ ‪#‎Kusu‬” or “‪#‎Husband‬ and ‪#‎Wife‬”, the couple trees became the symbol of happy marriage and harmonious life of the family. This is meant for couples which makes sense because this shrine is after all, for ‪#‎EmperorMeiji‬ and his wife ‪#‎EmpressShoken‬. Believe me, I haven’t married yet but there’s really something special with these trees when you see it 👫❤️🙏 | ‪#‎MeijiShrine‬ ‪#‎MejiShrine‬ ‪#‎ShintoShrine‬ ‪#‎YourShot‬ ‪#‎NatGeo‬ ‪#‎NatGeoTravel‬ ‪#‎HETHLERized‬ ‪#‎WhenInJapan‬ ‪#‎JapanHangover‬ ‪#‎Japan‬ ‪#‎Travel‬ ‪#‎MeTime‬ ‪#‎ILoveJapan‬ ‪#‎IgersPH‬ ‪#‎IgersManila‬ ‪#‎IgersPasig‬ ‪#‎Instagood‬ ‪#‎TravelGram‬ ‪#‎TravelDiaries‬

Look closer! Hahaha! You won’t notice that there’s actually a big tarpaulin hanging around the ‪#‎MeijiJinguShrine‬ that fills the void of the area of the shrine that’s being renovated haha *slow clap* 😂 | ‪#‎MeijiShrine‬ ‪#‎MejiShrine‬ ‪#‎ShintoShrine‬ ‪#‎YourShot‬ ‪#‎NatGeo‬ ‪#‎NatGeoTravel‬ ‪#‎HETHLERized‬ ‪#‎WhenInJapan‬ ‪#‎JapanHangover‬ ‪#‎Japan‬ ‪#‎Travel‬ ‪#‎MeTime‬ ‪#‎ILoveJapan‬ ‪#‎IgersPH‬ ‪#‎IgersManila‬ ‪#‎IgersPasig‬ ‪#‎Instagood‬ ‪#‎TravelGram‬ ‪#‎TravelDiaries‬

Visitors aren’t allowed to take photos within the shrine itself but that’s okay, having taken your photos with the ‪#‎MeijiJinguShrine‬ as the backdrop wasn’t a bad thing at all 😊 | ‪#‎MeijiShrine‬ ‪#‎MejiShrine‬ ‪#‎ShintoShrine‬ ‪#‎YourShot‬ ‪#‎NatGeo‬ ‪#‎NatGeoTravel‬ ‪#‎HETHLERized‬ ‪#‎WhenInJapan‬ ‪#‎JapanHangover‬ ‪#‎Japan‬ ‪#‎Travel‬ ‪#‎MeTime‬ ‪#‎ILoveJapan‬ ‪#‎IgersPH‬ ‪#‎IgersManila‬ ‪#‎IgersPasig‬ ‪#‎Instagood‬ ‪#‎TravelGram‬

So this is the ‪#‎MeijiJinguShrine‬, dedicated to the deified spirits of ‪#‎EmperorMeiji‬ and his wife ‪#‎EmpressShoken‬. This is ‪#‎Tokyo‬’s most famous ‪#‎ShintoShrine‬, and unlike other shrines, this doesn’t sports a flashy color. The shrine, about 200-acre park is covered by the evergreen forest that consists of 120,00O trees of 365 different specifies. The first ‪#‎ToriGate‬ that stands 12m tall at the main entrance leading to the shrine is made of 1500yr old cypress. You bow once at the ‪#‎torii‬ gates upon entering; rinse hands and mouth at the ‪#‎temizuya‬; and at the main shrine buildings, put some coins into the offertory box, bow twice, clap your hands twice, *say your prayers/wishes*, bow once again. They won’t allow you to take photos or videos from the inside of the shrine, meaning *when there is a roof above your head* so you simply need to step a little bit further from the roof of the shrine then you can have your ‪#‎selfies‬ 😊 Upon leaving the shrine, bow again once, at the #ToriGate 🙏 | ‪#‎MeijiShrine‬ ‪#‎MejiShrine‬ #ShintoShrine ‪#‎YourShot‬ ‪#‎NatGeo‬ ‪#‎NatGeoTravel‬ ‪#‎HETHLERized‬ ‪#‎WhenInJapan‬ ‪#‎JapanHangover‬ ‪#‎Japan‬ ‪#‎Travel‬ ‪#‎MeTime‬ ‪#‎ILoveJapan‬ ‪#‎IgersPH‬ ‪#‎IgersManila‬ ‪#‎IgersPasig‬ ‪#‎Instagood‬ ‪#‎TravelGram‬ ‪#‎TravelDiaries‬

IMG_6112

At the entrance of the ‪#‎MeijiJinguShrine‬ there’s a shop where you can buy talismans, lucky charms, votive and other items related to ‪#‎Shinto‬ religion. ‪#‎Omikuji‬ fortune is very popular in Japan, there’s even a vendo machine for that. O-mikuji are poems composed by either ‪#‎EmperorMeiji‬ or ‪#‎EmpressShoken‬. If you want to check your fortune you can pick one at the shop for ¥100. The poem is in ‪#‎Nihongo‬, and mine reads as (verbatim): “You can draw some profit from everything people say, even from those things that t first sound offensive. But for this, constant self-examination is required.” — Empress Shōken.

IMG_6113

But this ‪#‎Omikuji‬ that I got for another ¥100 at the main ‪#‎MeijiJinguShrine‬ when I’m about to leave the shrine was so on-point! Couldn’t agree more! 🙏 It reads: “If, upon consulting your conscience, you find you have nothing to be ashamed of, then you have no reason to be moved by gossip. Stick to your ‪#‎convictions‬”. – Empress Shōken 😊😊😊 | ‪#‎MeijiShrine‬ ‪#‎MejiShrine‬ ‪#‎ShintoShrine‬ ‪#‎YourShot‬ ‪#‎NatGeo‬ ‪#‎NatGeoTravel‬ ‪#‎HETHLERized‬ ‪#‎WhenInJapan‬ ‪#‎JapanHangover‬ ‪#‎Japan‬ ‪#‎Travel‬ ‪#‎MeTime‬ ‪#‎ILoveJapan‬ ‪#‎IgersPH‬ ‪#‎IgersManila‬ ‪#‎IgersPasig‬ ‪#‎Instagood‬ ‪#‎TravelGram‬ ‪#‎TravelDiaries‬
